latest position! About the voyage We did a circumnavigation with our children from 1977 – 1982. We plan to do this once more now that the children are grown-up, and grandchildren beginning to appear (so far Hedda who was born in 2002 & Johan born in 2004). We will do it this time in stages, probably coming home to Norway in the summers to work, partly for economic reasons and partly to see family. The whole voyage will probably take 4-5 years. We hope of course that both family and good friends will visit us often along the way. Stein’s mother Eli who is now 87 years old, is going to spend the winter aboard, so she will be one of this season’s oldest trans-Atlantic sailors! We will need to see how she enjoys it, and if she wants to sail more. Our plans may have to be delayed if she needs our help at home. The route will be similar to our previous one; the easiest way around the World in the trade winds, as we are not looking for bad weather. That will be through Panama Canal, across the Pacific, north of Australia, round South Africa, back to the West Indies and home via Azores and Britain. We will of course re-visit some favourite places like Galapagos, Pitcairn, and New Zealand and also discover new places like the San Blas Islands off Panama.
The years ahead seem full of exciting possibilities! |
